88-key felt piano. A beautiful, expressive felt piano, recorded in a dry and intimate space to convey every nuance and detail – created in collaboration with composer James Everingham.

About the Instrument

The Woodchester Piano is the debut release in our Signature Collection, a series of libraries created in collaboration with composers and musicians, each focusing on a specific set of sounds from their palette.

This piano belongs to James Everingham, who played a key role in shaping the library into a core component of his compositional template. Every detail has been meticulously captured, from the softest dynamics to the noises of the hammers and keys, right down to the intimate creaks of the pianist, and all of this can be controlled directly from the interface.

Complementing these detailed controls are 11 layers of atmosphere developed by the team at Fracture Sounds. Created from processed raw samples and more, these layers transform the library into an inspiring and immersive tool, an essential starting point for any composer or songwriter.

Intimate Sound

Recorded in James Everingham’s home studio, this piano delivers a close-up, dry sound, enriched by a subtle felt layer between the hammers and strings. The result is a deeply intimate and warm palette.

Detailed Control

Tailor the experience to your preferences by adjusting the mechanical noises, and enhance the realism with a dedicated Pianist Noise control for an extra human presence. Shape the piano’s character even further with the Response, Colour and Timbre Shift controls, letting you transform the tone from dark and ambient to bright and real.

Atmospheric Layers

Atmospheric layers add a rich, evolving undertone to the raw piano samples, allowing for seamless mixing and customisation. Controlled by Atmosphere Intensity (linked to the CC1/Mod Wheel), these layers transform the piano sound, making the instrument truly immersive and instantly inspiring.

About the Artist

James Everingham is a British film and television composer who recently collaborated with Hans Zimmer and Adam Lucas on the music for the BBC series Frozen Planet 2. His work combines traditional orchestral techniques with modern synthesis, often finding creative parallels between sound design and instrument design, as reflected in our work on the Woodchester piano.
